Bipolar disorder

Bipolar disorder, abbreviated as BD, is a highly biologically determined disease affecting 1-2% of people, characterized by episodic mood swings, sometimes extreme – during life there are periods of hypomania or mania and depression.

People affected by this disease experience intense mood changes throughout their lives, which significantly affect their daily functioning.

We diagnose states of hypomania, mania or depression according to the diagnostic criteria, which, apart from specific symptoms, should last for an appropriate period of time and cannot be the result of taking psychoactive substances.

Remember, not all mood swings are related to bipolar disorder. In order to make a diagnosis, it is necessary for a psychiatrist to collect a detailed interview.
BD can be treated effectively!
